EQUITANA Melbourne 2010 together with The Australian Mounted Games Association (AMGA) will host the Mounted Games Interstate Challenge introducing riders from NSW, SA, WA, QLD, VIC and Tas. The competition will feature a pair’s and teams competition with representatives from each state.
Mounted Games appeared as a Pony Club event, 28 years after the conception of the Pony Club itself. It was the brainchild of His Royal Highness Prince Phillip after he spoke of his interest in developing a team competition for Pony Club riders who did not have the expensive, well bred show ponies of the 1950's. The sport has stayed true to its all inclusive origins, where no equine breed is specified or prefered, no specialised expensive tack is necessary, and everyone can enter. Due to these honourable values, Mounted Games has gone from strength to strength and is now played all over the world.
Mounted Games are a series of very fast races performed on ponies, exciting for participants and spectators alike. The riders require a high degree of athletic ability, good riding skills, hand-to-eye coordination, general determination to see things through to the end and a competitive team spirit. Come and experience the excitement of high speed changeovers and maneuvers that Mounted Games have to offer.
The riders competing will include those representing Australia at the 2010 World Equestrian Games in Kentucky USA and at the 2010 World Championships being held in Switzerland in July.
Mounted Games is one of the fastest growing equestrian sports in Australia, and one of the least expensive, the EQUITANA competition will showcase the sport and the range in the ages of our leading competitors. Mounted Games can be enjoyed throughout Australia at all levels of riding ability and age of the rider.
