Carriage Driving

With over 40 years of experience in educating and training horses for riding and/or driving Wayne Armstron has earned a reputation of a fine horseman.  The motto that Wayne lives by is "if you have control...

...of the head, you have control of the horse."  A no nonsense approach based on traditional methods focusing around a properly mouthed horse, Wayne will take you through a step by step stratagy for its achievement.

Learn how to put a horse into harness for the first time, handle a horse that bucks or kicks, drive a single, pair or team and the techniques of the German "Achenbach" rein handling system.  These will all be demonstrated in his educational clinics in an easy to understand format.

As well as breaking in all types of horses (from Miniatures to Clydesdales), Wayne drives a four in hand team in combined driving competitions and is currently building a Gypsy wagon for his wife Rhonda and himself to take on holidays.

Jay Charnock Mounted Games

Mounted Games

Jay owns a small horse stud at Bulahdelah on the mid north coast of NSW where he breeds Australian Stock Horses.

More information...

There he bases himself and breeds, starts and trains horses in his spare time, but also travels all over the state with his equine dentistry business.

Jay has grown up around horses for most of his life and has competed in many disciplines, mainly competing in Stockhorse showing, Campdrafting and Mounted Games, competing a few times a year with young horses, and also helping a lot of the younger riders improve their skills and riding for this challenging sport.

Mounted Games is a great equine sport!  It can be either a team or individual sport and is not just dependant on the agility of the horse.  At a top level the rider also has to be quite fit and have good reflexes and co-ordination.  Jay believes that any horse and rider can compete in Mounted Games.  If your horse has some foundation training and is responsive, it will find this sport quite easy.  It is then up to the rider to keep up his/her end of the deal, when you're competing at high speed, with the pressure of other competitors racing next to you, and the crowd going going wild cheering for their favorite team, this can be quite hard!

Shaun Saunders
Young Guns of Reining

Shaun is the youngest rider to win the prestigious National Reining Horse Association Derby Title at only 17 years of age.  He is a Dedicated Aspiring young trainer, working under Reining Hall of Famer, Warren Backhouse.

More information...

22 year old Shaun grew up on a cattle property in Central Queensland and it was there that his passion for horses began.  When local cutting trainers used to come out in weaning season and work their horses on the weaners, Shaun would have his pony saddled and sit in the corner and turn back all day.  When he saw a promotional video on the legendary Quarter Horse stallion Smart Little Lena he was awed how awesome horses could be.  This triggered his dream of becoming a horse trainer.

Shaun first wanted to be a Cutting horse trainer, but his father Ian wanted him to learn how to get a horse broke and supple before he ventured down the cutting path.  So Shaun and his father attended several reining clinics which was where they met Warren Backhouse.  Upon this introduction to Reining, Shaun was impressed how broke and willing the top trainers could get their horses.  Reining truly is the ultimate in speed, control and finesse in the execution of dynamic maneuvers.  When done at top level it displays ultimate communication between horse and rider.

Since persuing Reining in 2003 Shaun has won High Point Youth of Australia, NRHA Open Derby Champion, QRHA Open Champion 2005, VRHA Open Derby Champion 2005, he placed 3rd in the NRHA Open Futurity 2006 and was Reserve Champion in the Open Derby.  In 2007 and 2008 Shaun completed a farriers apprenticeship under well respected horseman and farrier Glenn Wyse and received 3rd year apprentice of the year.  Recently Shaun won his first Open Futurity on Whiz Destiny at the 2010 Pacific Coast Reining Spectacular.
