Amanda Edwards

Amanda Edwards is passionate about horses and helping them heal when things go wrong. Owner and founder of the Equine Care Clinic and the Equine Recovery Care Practitioner Program she is dedicated to giving horses best of care following injury or illness and teaching horse owners and others how to do this well. Amanda has had horses all her life, riding and competing at Pony Club and Adult Riding Club where her favourite discipline was eventing. As an adult she became a nurse and later specialised in emergency and trauma nursing working in some of the busiest Emergency Departments in Melbourne. With a natural bent for the scientific and a passion for horses she was often involved in the care of horses following injury or illness, helping out friends and family. Amanda started taking horse related courses, attending conferences and building her equine health knowledge. Eventually, at the prompting of one of her Vets, she opened up the Equine Care Clinic to look after horses post injury or illness when their owners can't. With a background in Emergency Nursing and 40 years horse experience Amanda ensures that the care and information is relevant, practical and evidence based. Amanda is the author of First Response - A Practical Guide to Caring for Your Sick or Injured Horse and is a popular presenter and horse events and clubs.

Equine Wound Management

Unfortunately equine wounds happen more often than we would like. Horse owners often struggle to manage the care of big wounds and find the whole process stressful. In this topic I cover the stages of normal wound healing, what to use to clean and support healing of wounds and tips and tricks on how to get it all done in easy, horse friendly ways. This session brings evidence based practice to equine wound care and is a must for all horse owners, experienced or beginner.

In this topic I cover first aid for a range of common horse emergencies or problems. The information provided is based on current evidence or best practice and gives horse owners helpful hints and tips to respond in the right way at the right time.
