Barrel racing is an exciting sport where the winner is determined by just thousandths of a second. No matter how talented the horse is, and how skilled the rider is, just one minor error can be the deciding factor in final placings. The winner is determined by who can run the barrel-racing pattern in the fastest time. The rider’s horsemanship skills, the horse’s mental condition, and the horse’s athleticism are all very crucial to providing a good time. Three barrels are placed in a triangular pattern, the rider must ride around each one, and whoever has the lowest time, wins.
Find out a little more about the nuances of what makes a top barrel racing run, before being amazed at the sheer speed as the competition really comes into flight.Eventers too will get to showcase their sport, often described as the triathlon of Equestrian Sports. In this condensed version, you will see riders do a short dressage test to show their horses training, then after a few minutes to change saddle, move quickly into a fast paced cross country and showjumping course- all in the EQUITANA outdoor arena! This event, is a great backdrop to watch this high octane equestrian sport while enjoying an early dinner before the night program kicks in.

The ever-popular Jumping program is featured once more at EQUITANA, this year we have two jam-packed days of Jumping, Thursday we have 2 classes on the grass arena, 1.3m and 1.4. Thursday evening we move indoors and take “Full Flight”. Friday we have secured $51,500 in total prize money and we’ll have Australia’s best riders take on the David Sheppard designed Grand Prix competition.
