Paula Jeffrey
Horse health / Care
Paula Jeffery has been involved in the equestrian industry as a rider, trainer, coach and saddle fitter for over 30 years, including 7 years training and competing overseas in UK and Europe as a dressage rider at FEI level. With her her lifelong passion of helping horses and riders achieve their best, the last 10 years has been spent learning, training and researching the relationship between saddle fit, saddle design and horse performance both in Australia and with some of the equestrian industries top leaders overseas.
Dedicated to improving horse and rider performance through correct saddle fit and recognising the need for horse owner education around Australia, she developed Performance Saddlefits Australia; a team of highly educated saddlefitters who are trained and mentored for three years through to achieving UK Society of Master Saddlers International Saddle Fitters Qualification. As a group, Paula and the Performance Saddlefits Team have been developing collaborative training and research with top Vets, Physiotherapists and Saddle Designers to help further industry understanding on the correlation between saddle fit and its impact on performance biomechanics, and resultant compensatory injury and lameness in horses.

Saddlefitting the Asymmetric Horse
Covers common skeletal and muscular changes found in horses that create asymmetric development, posture, and biomechanics. How these asymmetric changes effect saddle fit, saddle balance and rider posture. Underlying pathology that can cause asymmetry in the horse, and implications for soundness under saddle. Recognising asymmetry and basic biomechanics assessment techniques. Solutions to saddle fit issues created by asymmetry.

Saddlefitting the Performance Horse
Presenting recent biomechanics research that show correlations between pressure changes created by saddles and range of motion in performance horses. The major muscle groups effected by saddlefit and the impact on muscle fatigue, stride length and joint rotation. Implications of common saddlefitting issues and resultant compensatory injuries and lameness in performance horses.
