Side Saddle
English
While mostly seen as a “ladies” sport, both men and women have been riding astride and side saddle all throughout history. These days, the discipline of side saddle is mainly seen as an English style of riding, primarily in the show ring. Western side saddles also exist for Western disciplines, though not as common in Australia. Riders sit facing forward with only their legs seated to one side of the horse. There is one stirrup on the saddle where the foot rests and a pommel, known as the fixed head, that the upper leg goes around.
The side saddle competition at EQUITANA will feature showing classes, including a working hunter with a jump and the thrilling ‘Champagne Challenge’ – it’s an event not to be missed!”
