Nathan Marshall
Horse health / Care
Nathan’s interest in horses began in his late teens while working on large cattle stations in the Northern Territory, which included shoeing his own horses. That was the beginning of his keen interest in horse’s hooves that has continued to grow through to today.
Years later Nathan found himself owning a horse with severe hoof deformities and knew he needed to learn more in order to help. He studied and completed the Diploma of Equine Podiotherapy, during which time he was not only able to dramatically improve his own horse’s hooves, this ignited a strong passion to help many more horses with hoof problems. This journey led to thousands of hooves and scenarios, just as many pathologies, laminitis rehabilitation and a deep understanding of hoof problems.
Nathan’s ‘partner in crime’ is his wife Nadine, a respected Equine Naturopath. As well as working together in the field to help laminitic horses, they have also run a successful rehabilitation centre and organic herb farm on the far south coast of NSW where, together they founded the popular natural and nutritional equine product range Happy Horse Australia. Although they have now sold both the property and Happy Horse Australia, their passion for holistic horse management continues in their new business Innate Equine and at their new home in the Snowy Mountains.
Previously President of the Australian Association of Equine Podiotherapists, Nathan continues his passion for healthy hooves in the field with his clients, and loves educating and empowering owners to look after their own horses hooves with greater confidence. Nathan believes that a confident horse owner, equipped with the right knowledge and tools, has potential to achieve a better hoof than even a professional can on lengthy trim cycles.

Seedy Toe – getting rid of it for good!
Most people who have horses, at one point or another, has had to deal with seedy toe. Some have only ever experienced mild cases which seem relatively harmless. Often people learn to live with it as it just never seems to go away! Seedy Toe (or White Line Disease) can be everything from; an inconvenient crack in an otherwise neat hoof; a large invasion that spreads through the ‘white-line’ making it difficult to maintain a usable hoof; to a major infection causing recurring abscesses, which can eventually infect the coffin bone leading to permanent damage and lameness. In this presentation, we’ll look at what it is, how it starts, how to get rid of it, and how to prevent it!
